On the hottest day of the year so far it was a real pleasure to catch up with Toureen Haulage Director Mark Weller pictured below LEFT.
Mark won’t mind me saying that he’s a no nonsense kinda guy, taking safety and protection of his company’s brand extremely seriously. The peoplePanel® bespoke design we created (and continue to fit) on Toureen vehicles was largely his idea. After sourcing a suitable design for him to approve, the Dawes Highway team painstakingly tracked down the original artist (Mr Michael Tompsett) who Kindly gave us his permission to reproduce his stunning creation on the side of our impact tested safety panels to draw attention to the vehicle and help keep people safe.
BELOW: Toureen and Dawes highway have been ‘tweaking’ the ‘above and beyond’ and finding ways to further enhance FORS and DVS2020 guidance. (This bit isn’t in the book…yet!)
In 2019 Toureen became the first company to trial additional rear blind spot signage on their trailer fleet. This was a real success and is now something we encourage all of our customers to adopt. The theory being that once a cyclist has passed the rear of a long trailer, a second prominent warning message on the bulkhead increases hazard awareness and helps remind people of danger zones alongside the vehicle. Needless to say Toureen’s FORS GOLD status is very well deserved!
The platform trailer itself is a brand new 13.6m offering from Dennison Trailers (Via Rob Brandon – Area sales manager South East). Its equipped with positive rear steer and will come into its own around town and help Toureen get the job done as safety as possible for its customers and vulnerable road users alike. It is the first of four new trailers to be delivered into the Watford depot.
We take this opportunity to thank Mark and his colleagues at Toureen for their continuing commitment to road safety and for choosing Dawes Highway’s innovative products to make their fleet safer for cyclists and pedestrians.
